"it looks as though the weather could play
a part in deciding the outcome of the nfc championship
game between the falcons and the eagles. with
snow and wind currently forecast, these conditions
would seem to favour the team that can run the
football best. the road team have the best rushing
record this season, thanks to the formidable threesome
of michael vick, warrick dunn and tj duckett,
and are also ranked 8th for defence. philadelphia,
on the other hand, are placed 24th in terms of
rushing and rely much more on mcnabb's passing.
he'll be counting on calmer conditions to allow
the eagles to play to their strengths. one to
watch is the eagles' wr freddie mitchell - he's
reacted well since terrell owens went out injured.
having made 5 catches for 65 yards and grabbing
a touchdown last week (and he would have had a
second if he hadn't fumbled) i'll have a very
close eye on him.
"this weekend's other game is much tougher
to call. weather is less likely to play a part
in this match, given that both teams can run well,
although the steelers' have a better defensive
record. however, if they want to take anything
from this game, then rookie qb ben roethlisberger
will really have to step up his game after a poor
performance against the jets last week, which
they were lucky not to lose. this game is all
set to be a defensive battle, and i expect it
to be low scoring relative to sunday's other match.
we're predicting a win for the road team by 2
to 4 points; the patriots managed an impressive
win against the colts last week, and look to be
the more rounded team when compared to the less
convincing steelers. i expect to see a lot of
punters backing new england as you just can't
fail to be impressed with them."
what to bet on?
american football is ideally suited to spread
betting, and sporting index run the biggest range
of markets available. one of the most popular
is based on total points, which is a prediction
of the total number of points scored by both teams
in a match. for example, sporting index predict
that for the new england at pittsburgh match,
the total points will be between 34 and 37 points
(this is the "spread"). to bet on this
market, you have a simple choice to make:
will the total be more than 37 points,
or
will the total be less than 34 points?
so, for example, if you anticipate plenty of
points from both teams and think that 37 is too
conservative, then you would "bet high"
at 37 points. how much you win or lose depends
on how right (or wrong) you are
place your bets
that should give you something to think about.
