supremacy
bets
supremacy: also known as superiority. a measure of
winning margin, or how much one participant outperforms
the other. (e.g. how many more goals will man utd score
than chelsea in a football match, or how many more points
will leicester score than bath in a rugby game.)
spread betting supremacy example:
france/england 0.2 - 0.5
in their opening match of euro 2004, we rate england as
underdogs against the title holders france. we quote france
as favourites by the above margin in goals, thereby expressing
our perceived supremacy of the french to win the game.
betting with your head, you reason that les bleus will
prove too strong for the three lions, so you back them to
win on supremacy and buy at 0.5 for £50 per goal.
france get their campaign off to a flyer, with henry bagging
a brace for a 2-0 victory. you join in their celebrations
with a £75 win.
the maths: (2 - 0.5) x £50 = £75 profit
however, what if you decide to bet with your heart and
support england? in this case, you would go low and sell
france at 0.2 for £50. your patriotism is not rewarded,
though, and the 2-0 scoreline means you're commiserating
with sven's men in a £90 loss.
the maths: (2 - 0.2) x £50 = £90 loss
